Today is many things, examples below:
- National Pencil Day
- My Mother In Law’s Birthday
- National Take a Walk in the Park Day
- National Turkey Neck Soup Day
- National Am In Control Day
From the above, some of them mean something to me, others not at all. Does anyone like Turkey Neck Soup? I can imagine it tastes “fowl” and you should “gobble” it down!
As for National Pencil Day, I always use the pen I got for my 30th (and yes it has needed quite a few refills since then).
The events that matter to me are my Mother In Law’s Birthday. This will involve a Skype call, which always takes longer to set up than the actual call as we need to remind her every time how to do it. We don’t mind though, we grew up with technology and she is a late learner and we love that she is willing to learn (she is over 70 and nearer 80, shhh).
The day I will focus on is “National Am In Control Day”. For those that know me well, you will know that my favourite saying is “failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. I love colour code rag reports, to do lists, mind maps…… One of the people I follow is @BrendonBurchard. I love his approach to being more productive. This involves a few simple things including blocking out 50 minute work blocks, then stopping to have a stretch and drink some water. It’s amazing the difference this has made to me by having a little break / walk in between tasks. I love it. You can read more about it here: http://brendon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/BrendonBurchard-5x50ProductivityFormula.pdf.
So today, like all days, I am feeling in control. Even though my day started with my husband’s pager going off (he’s a firefighter) and I had to rejig my morning so I could stay home with my daughter. The morning call I had scheduled was rearranged and I ended up being dressed as a fairy and going on an adventure to solve a mystery.
To end my working day, I am going for a walk in a park with my friend Joanne. We end up talking so much we lose track of distance which makes my FitBit vibrate with glee that I have hit my step goal for the day.
Whatever you do today, I hope you feel in control and enjoy it.
